It has begun!

Filed under: the trip, Jordan — Jordan @ 2:32 pm

i thought i should write you a sleep deprived message telling you about our first day! sorry for the lack of capital letters…it´s annoying reaching for that key on this keyboard…it was an adventure just getting to the hostel! i thought it would be a nice easy bus ride and i would get dropped off near the hostel…i thought it would be a piece of cake…but i was wrong. we almost could not get on the bus because they only took change. luckily a guy had pity on us and paid for both of us…then, we got off too early because both maps we had were not very detailed…it was hard to tell where we were. When we asked a guy how to get to our hostel, he was very patient even though we couldn´t really understand him. he led us to the bus stop we had just come from and told us to take the bus we had already been on and gave us money to get on. not knowing the protocol on how to pay on the bus, i started entering coins without saying anything to the driver…a guy with his little daughter talked me through it as it was obvious we were dumb tourists who knew nothing about the busses. i later had nice little convo (in English, thank goodness) with this man as he explained how he loves Buenos Aires and how he met the love of his life there…so we got off a stop or two after this man and of course we ran into him again as were still trying to figure out how to get to our hostel…so he gave us directions and we departed…we unwound at the hostel a little bit and then went on a walk…we met this guy named Uriel who wanted to learn slang phrases from the U.S…and we agreed to meet with him tomorrow and trade english lessons for spanish lessons…also we bought diapers for a woman´s baby that we met on the street, that was interesting…she kept asking for more and more and finally we just had to say no…now we´re both exhausted (Adam´s sleeping as i write this) and i am thinkng about going to bed now even though it´s only 7:30 (2:30 seattle time). Peace out yo!

  1. Wow…your adventure definitely started the minute you got off the plane! I am so thankful for those who helped you and also that you were able to help someone else in need. It’s amazing the difference we can make in another’s life in just a fleeting moment in time, without even knowing it in most cases. The kindness and humanity in each of us transcends cultural and language barriers, and it certainly makes the globe seem just that much smaller. What an awesome world we live in! Sweet dreams.
